What Are Cannabinoids?
How Do They Work?
Cannabinoids are active compounds produced by all cannabis plants. They account for most of the benefits of cannabis.
Cannabinoids are naturally occurring bioactive compounds that stimulate the Endocannabinoid System.
There are 100s of them.
However, here's a brief list of the major ones.
THC: Can lead to euphoria. Psychoactive effect. Federal legal limit is 0.3% Assists in pain management.
CBD: Unlike THC, CBD does not directly activate our brain’s CB1 receptors, meaning users don’t feel the same intoxicating effects. Instead, CBD seems to increase the level of endocannabinoids (2-AG and anandamide) in the body. Promotes relaxation and stress support.
Though THC and CBD are the most well-known cannabinoids, we're learning more on these other major cannabinoids.
CBN: A breakdown product of THC. Encourages pain relief. Psychoactive.
CBDa: Possible sleep aid. Non-psychoactive.
CBGa: Actually the precursor molecule that is turned into THCa and CBDa as the cannabis plant develops, so it is found only in tiny amounts in the mature plant.
THCa: The acidic parent of THC found in the raw cannabis plant. Non-psychoactive.
CBG: Known as the "Mother of Cannabinoids". Encourages relaxation. May potentially be a blood pressure reducer.
CBC: Found only in tiny amounts in the cannabis plant. Encourages stress relief. Non-psychoactive.
THCv: Does have psychoactive properties, but much less than THC. Aids in weight loss. Psychoactive. Promotes appetite suppression.
CBDv: Helps alleviate neuropathic pain
